Symptoms of Gestational Diabetes
Usually when a woman gets pregnant her gynecologist warns her about the possibility of gestational diabetes development. According to statistics 3 up to 5 per cent of pregnant women get the condition every year.
Symptoms of gestational diabetes mellitus can be the same as of other two types of diabetes: high blood sugar level, body weight increase, dry mouth, etc. Though in many cases women do not feel any difference in their condition, and only blood tests that show increased glucose level prove the existence of the disease. This symptom is hidden. And that is its main danger. That is why regular blood analysis should be done, and a lot of attention should be paid to any changes in blood sugar level.
Among other signs of increased glucose level is a rapid weight growth of the fetus. It is a side effect of defense reaction for high sugar level in placenta. This effect shows up in producing more insulin which in its turn stimulates too fast weight growth of the fetus.
Gestational diabetes mellitus could be a hereditary disease (in a certain sense). So, it’s really important to find out whether your blood relatives have or had diabetes (gestational diabetes for female relatives).
