What is Algebra?

It is an domain of mathematics that use letter of the alphabets instead of numbers to derive results for a given situation. This abstraction is the very reason why most people find algebra scary and too difficult to handle and it is the same reasons why some pupils find it fun to play around with. Algebra topics range from working with fractions to factoring binomials all the way to finding the inverse of a matrix. In most cases, just as in any other maths oriented class, students start by adding, subtracting and simplifying algebraic expressions. later on, they would move on to more advanced stages of solving algebraic equations using the greatest common factors and converting fractions in to decimals.

Oh no! It’s Exponents, Radicals and Graphing

There are many advanced subjects. First there are exponents. An exponent is the little number placed as superscript to a number or algebraic expression. An example is (x + y)3 where the 3 is the power and denotes the power to which that number is raised. The above algebraic expression is expressed as, x plus y to the third power. While working with exponents you will often encounter exercises that require you to add, subtract, multiply and divide. You can work with rational and negative exponents. If that isn’t enough to make your head spin, then you can move on to radicals. A radical, simply put, is the undoing of an exponent. The V beside 4 denote a radical expression which means, the square root of 4, which equals 2. The contrasting exponential equation is 2^2 which is read, 2 to the 2nd power, and equals 4. Equally with exponents, radical expressions can be added, subtracted, multiplied and divided. Radicals can be switched into powers and powers back into radicals. If you find that powers and radicals don’t really perk up your interest, you could move on to graphing. Start with graphing straight lines and determining if the line is horizontal or vertical or something else. Does the line have an x-intercept or a y-intercept? Can you find the slope of the line? you master the mathematical art of graphing, you will find out a whole new world full of parabolas and hyperbolas.

Help is Out There

If you are learning algebra and this all seems a little too much, don’t fret. There are many resources out there that can help you master linear systems of equations , quadratic formulas and polynomials. Look for math tutors or software programs that will walk you through gradual process on how to solve any problem. You can also use algebra calculators or algebra solvers. any of these instruments can help you become an algebra guru in no time.

How Can Algebra Help You?

September 14th, 2009

An extensive research carried out to figure out the reasons behind school dropouts shows that many individuals look at algebra as the culprit. It is well said, that just the knowledge of the teacher is not alone adequate to grow interest in the subject matter for the pupils. It’s the method; the subject matter is delivered to its recipient which leads a lot for developing interest in the contents.

What is Algebra?

In short, algebra is a arm of mathematics that deal with letters in place of numbers in order to solve equations; algebraic equation is a scale. The basic concepts of algebra includes real numbers, complex numbers , matrices and vectors.

The Different Fields

Generally, algebra spreads across many domains of mathematics. Some that are worth mentioning are Multiplying exponents, dividing exponents, Solving complex equations, Finding Greatest common factor or GCM, Multiplying, Adding, Subtracting fractions and many more.

If the above mentioned areas are already making you nervous, I hope that the definitions to follow will relieve your anxiousness and give real perception in to the content.

Exponents is a notion that indicates multiplication of identical factors. Fractions are equally interesting and actually are used when representing numbers that describe the parts of a whole. Similarly there are other areas too in algebra which are scary by name but equally interesting by their definition and purpose. To state a few more - Mixed numbers , Quadratic formula, Graphing linear inequalities, solving compound in equalities, Factoring binomials, and Factoring polynomials; are all algebraic expressions.

Although you may find it obscuring to understand mixed numbers, but it will really interest you to note that they are none other than a type of fractions. Similarly, graphing linear equalities may be self explanatory and there are many other similar algebraic expressions that may sound complex but are extremely interesting to work with.

Finding a Tutor

If you are curious in understanding the domain of algebraic expressions yet do not have a private instructor to assist you in the procedure, leave your worries behind since online lessons will come for your rescue. These lessons stress the practical ways rather than the theory, showing safe techniques. The algebra solver software can guide you stepwise in solving your maths sums and it can also provide explanations of all steps.

Should You Take Algebra?

August 1st, 2009

Algebra is the one which is used for getting our common tasks completed. The human beings forever continues counting, measuring, dividing, and multiplying.

The History

Invented in the first millennium BC, algebra has its beginnings in the middle-east. The ancient geniuses applied algebra for solving daily problems while the Asian or rather Chinese counterpart applied geometry for the same purpose

The Nature of Algebra

Although you may see algebra as solving formulas, simplifying rational expressions, and converting fractions to decimals, algebra has a much bigger body of knowledge and applicability. Since this prospect has been understood, the education system pressures us to learn algebra from the beginning of our pupil life.

Algebra I

The students are given an introduction in this study course to numbers, solving linear equations , graphing systems of linear equations, graphing linear inequalities, laws of exponents, solving fractional equations, and factoring polynomials. This course lays the groundwork for the rest of the sophisticated algebra waiting to be searched in the next two levels.
If a pupil is keen on studying algebra down to its roots, then this is the most significant study course.

Algebra II

Once the students are sound with Algebra I constructs, Algebra II can be taken up for broadening the spectrum of this marvelous segment of mathematics. There are two views of Algebra II; stressing more on the topics learned in Algebra I and introduction to new constructs. When it comes to the new introductions, adding and subtracting matrices, quadratic functions, resolving exponential equations, probability and statistics are noteworthy.
In this level of study, pupils are obliged to focus more on the core concepts.

College Algebra

This is one of the most crucial levels of studying Algebra with nearly no new topic brought in. I assume it is quite humorous, but this is what maths is. Do you know why mathematics is called the queen of all scientific disciplines ? That’s because of the unpredictable nature of maths!

Help!!!

Algebra has the most wide-ranging methods and tools available for getting aid. The first and the foremost key source is an Algebra instructor from whom you can get help and aid.
In addition to books, students should never underestimate the use of Algebra software package that is particularly designed to solve algebraic problems with informative steps. This software system really contributes insight in to Algebraic operations of solving equations , by allowing pupils to simply watch and learn through exercises.

American Express Blue Sky Card: No More Restrictions!

June 13th, 2008

One of the chief complaints heard from consumers regarding rewards credit cards are those cards that promise the world, but restrict you from getting there. Specifically, credit cards that allow you to accumulate a large number of points within a short period of time, but when it comes time to redeeming those points for free air miles, restrictions kick in. All those points and no where to go…at least on your schedule, that is. Well, American Express is doing something about all of that and its recently introduced American Express Blue Sky card is certainly getting a lot of attention. American Express is saying “farewell” to travel rewards restrictions and you can too. Please read on for all the exciting details!

Restrictions: Who Needs Them?

Planning a trip can be enough of a hassle without worrying about rewards credit cards restrictions. Arranging time off from work, booking the hotel room, renting a car, and more is half the battle with the other half of the time spent trying to figure out which dates you can fly on. Oh, sure, you can fly whenever you want, but not if you are relying on redeeming your rewards credit card points. In most case, blackout periods will determine when/if you can fly. Getting there can be hassle because of redemption restrictions.

Fortunately, the American Express Blue Sky card has changed all of that. If you have the Blue Sky card you can:

Travel where you want, when you want: there are absolutely no blackout dates or travel restrictions. That means you can fly to Paris at the height of tourism season or to Honolulu whenever you want. No restrictions on renting a car, booking a hotel room, taking a cruise, etc.

Be free of fees: no annual fee and a 0% APR introductory rate for the first six months.

Accumulate points fast: Spend one dollar and get one point. On everything!

Benefits Beyond the Standard Package

The American Express Blue Sky card offers many other benefits well beyond the typical rewards card. They include:

Express Cash: When you need cash on hand, you can visit one of over 500,000 automatic teller machines and access your credit line. This can be helpful especially when you need cash to tip your porter or pay for a taxi.

Insurance: When you charge your cruise, flight, rail, or bus ticket to your American Express Blue Sky card you are automatically covered for up to $100,000 for accidental death or dismemberment.

Car Rental Loss/Damage Insurance: Paying $8-$16 per day for rental insurance on cars is a thing of the past when you charge your car rental on your American Express Blue Sky card. For a one week rental, that can mean big savings for you!

Clearly, the American Express is addressing the number one complaint consumers have had with airline credit cards by removing blackout dates and travel restrictions with the Blue Sky card offer.

What Are Platinum Credit Cards?

April 18th, 2008

Platinum credit cards are generally offered to those individuals with good credit ratings and an income of around £20,000 per annum or more. Platinum credit cards have many benefits and features compared to a standard or gold credit card. Conventional school of thought would find platinum credit cards to be a status symbol. However, relaxed rules and upper limits have brought them within reach of the average person too.

A platinum credit card can be a good choice if you frequently use credit card for your routine and high purchases and pay back the whole credit at the month end. You get a high limit of credit and sometimes no limit at all if you show a high earning power of annual income £25,000 or more. However the actual high level of credit you’ll get depends on your income and credit rating.

Platinum card owners are privileged because they do not have to pay the usual high interest rates on credit. Generally there is a low or no annual fee. You can get a number of benefits and rewards such as free air miles, discount points, reward points for purchases and cash back. If you cannot make the most of platinum card deals it is better to opt for standard credit card. Since, maintaining a platinum credit card can prove to be a costly affair in the long run if not used and managed properly.

A number of credit card companies offer special facilities such as:

  • Protection against accidental injury, sickness and involuntary unemployment
  • Protection against card theft and loss
  • Online credit card fraud protection
  • Travel insurance and special travel services
  • Flexibility to share it with friends and family

    Platinum Card Guidelines

There are certain things you must never overlook while signing up for a platinum credit card. Make sure you spend only that much amount that you can easily payback because even if you fail to pay one monthly payment it will account for a negative credit rating. Bottom line is that the benefits should always amount up to more than you pay.
